Preparing For Your Orange County Photography Session

As an Orange County photographer I get asked a lot of questions. Among the most frequently asked questions however one stands out above all others. "Is there anything I need to do to prepare for my photo session"? In truth there many things you can do to prepare for a photo session but there are also a number of things you don't want to do, things that can result in photographs that you're disappointed with.
The following is a list of do's and dont's when preparing for an Orange County photography session.
  • Hair - It's best to avoid experimenting with new hairstyles prior to your photography session. Even if the idea you have is a good one changes don't always turn out as expected and you don't want to be stuck with that hairstyle during your session. In contrast utilizing hair spray on a familiar hairstyle can help control loose, stray, and frizzy hair which when left unattended can ruin any photograph. Try to give your hair the same attention you would if you were going for a job interview.

  • Tans - Many people feel as though a few days in the sun just prior to their photography session with me will help them look better in photographs. In reality however redness from the sun shows up in all photographs so it's wise to stay out of the sun in the days leading up to a photo session. If you have recently been sunburned and are pealing you'll want to keep in mind that correcting that in post production is extremely difficult. Those who spend time in the sun prior to a photography session need to be conscious of what type of tops they wear. Although a healthy tan looks great in a photograph, shirts with straps leave marks and show up in sharp contrast in photographs. Additionally tan lines can be corrected but that process can be time-consuming and costly.

  • Skin - A lot of individuals worry about small skin blemishes like a pimple, scar or recent abrasion but none of these are reason enough to cancel an appointment as these types of things are fairly easy to retouch. Women concerned with skin blemishes should consider using concealer and powder together as that combination works wonders when it comes to covering blemishes. For those individuals with oily complexion the use of powder should be under heavy consideration as it makes photographs turn out much better.

  • Glasses - Individuals who wear glasses should keep in mind that glare reflecting off the glasses can ruin even the greatest of photographs and in some cases can result in a distorted eye shape. Whenever possible individuals who wear eyeglasses should consider wearing an empty pair of frames to be photographed in. This will allow them to look like themselves but avoid the consequences of wearing eyeglasses in a photography session.

  • Braces - People whom have concerns about their braces showing in a photograph needn't worry as they can actually be removed using modern technology. This technology allows people with braces whom might otherwise be afraid to smile, smile proudly without any worry.

Tips on How to Take A Great Photo of Your Child

Photographs of children have been popular since the invention of photography. This is because children have an energy and exuberance that translate into fantastic pictures. In more modern times the practice of photographing children has remained popular and even grown in popularity because not only have Orange County photography techniques and technology improved, making the process easier, but parents notice how quickly children grow up. Once children have grown there is no turning back the clock so it's a good idea to have pictures taken of your children as often as possible for not only keepsakes but heirlooms as well.

When an Orange County photographer photographs children there a number of things he/she can do in order to get the best possible photographs. Not all photographers take the time to do the following things though those that do produce the greatest of pictures for parents, grandparents, and the children themselves.
  • Take time to get to know the child which you intend to photograph - Spending a mere 10 to 15 minutes with a child before they are photographed can yield information about some of their likes and dislikes and can help a photographer determine what type of setting, backdrops, and lighting will work best for that child.
  • Observe a child acting naturally - A child might be inquisitive, intent, or distracted but regardless of what they are those things should be captured into the images that are to be shot.
  • Be unobtrusive and allowing children to act natural - Forced behavior often results in photographs of a lesser quality and every Orange County photographer wants to give their customers their money's worth. Allowing a child to be themselves always makes for phenomenal photographs.
  • Taking pictures of children doing everyday natural things - A child might be eating breakfast, have his/her elbows on the table, just awoken from a nap, or might be doing their homework. These types of pictures capture not only a child's natural surroundings but their personality quirks as well.

Orange County Photography – What Am I Paying For?

There are a number of people out there who believe photography his nothing more than pointing a camera and pressing a button. There is however quite a bit more to the process and the amount of work, training, and time that go into becoming a professional Orange County photographer makes it easy to understand why Orange County photographers charge what they charge. The following things will help to illustrate exactly why Orange County photographers charge what they do.
  • As professional photographers are either in business for themselves or work for a photography company the goal is to turn a profit.
  • Professional Orange County photographers have to constantly buy professional grade equipment in order to provide customers with the quality that they've come to expect.
  • Orange County photographers must continue their education and learn as much they can about the business if they wish to remain relevant and effective in business.
  • Orange County photographers, at least those worth their salt, don't simply snap pictures. Instead they create photographs which capture emotion and atmosphere which in turn become keepsakes for their customers.
  • Professional photographers spent considerable time working with a single customer and must go to great lengths to ensure quality and satisfaction.

Orange County Photographer Meets And Photographs Pro Golfers At Holiday Dinner

Last month I had the opportunity to attend a holiday dinner at the golf and racquet club at Coto De Caza. While any meal from this club is generally a real treat this particular dinner was exceptionally special because there were pro golfers attending the dinner and I had the privilege of not only meeting them but photographing them as well.

The pro golfers in attendance were Hunter Mahan, Paul Goydos, Patrick Burke, and Dennis Paulson all of whom were happy to allow an Orange County photographer to take their picture. Moreover all of them were pleasant and very friendly making the pictures even more exciting to take. Below are a few pictures taken at the event.

Should you have any questions about this event or about my Orange County photography services please don't hesitate to contact me so that I might assist you.

Orange County Photographer Photographs Homecoming Solider And Family

Always looking for ways to give back to the community in which I serve, I recently extended my hand to a family whose patriarch had just completed serving his country overseas this past December. It all began when I was contacted by Tonya who explained to me that her husband was coming home after a seven-month deployment to Camp Pendleton. She expressed that she wanted to utilize my Orange County photography services in order to have pictures taken for the homecoming.

When she asked what this type of photography session would cost I let her know that it would cost nothing and that she should consider it my thank you gift for her husbands service to our country. Initially Tonya wasn't sure whether her husband would arrive on December 17 or December 18 but I told her that regardless of when he arrives that I would be there to take pictures of the homecoming.

Tonya's husband actually arrived on December 17 and I arrived at the local Rotary at about 8:30 AM. While we waited we enjoyed some hot chocolate, munchies and watched the happy reunions of other soldiers returning home. Tonya's husband Tyler finally arrived at 10:30 AM and the Orange County photographs I took of this happy family reunion will not only provide Tonya and her family with printed memories but will remain in my mind for the rest of my life.

Here are some photographs from Tonya and Tylers reunion

The joy of watching loved ones reunite and taking pictures of those events is something I could do over and over again. Should you have any questions about this event or about any of my Orange County photography services please don't hesitate to contact me so that I may be a service.

Orange County Photography Testimonial

It has taken many years of hard work to hone my skills as an Orange County photographer and when one of my clients occasionally takes the time to remind me of just how pleased they were with not only the service they received but the pictures as well. Recently I had the pleasure of working with Kris McBeath and administrative assistant at Argosy University in Southern California. She was so thrilled with the service I provided her with she sent me the following testimonial.

I highly recommend your professionalism and your availability when I needed to schedule the appointment. You were extremely flexible and easily accommodating to all my needs. When the appointment arrived, you not only showed up right on time; but also, immediately look around and had some wonderful creative ideas for the photos. These ideas turned out to be so good, that we used YOUR ideas instead of my own. Your photos arrived so fast and looked so good – almost like you’d spent days on each and every single one of them!

The ABSOLUTE best part of your photography company, hasn’t even been mentioned. Your prices were extremely competitive. That is something that first caught my attention, but upon receipt of your actual work, with such skill and efficiency, I realized I REALLY got a great deal.

Will recommend to all my family, friends, coworkers, and of course, you will hear from me again. Thank you so much Carol.

Kris McBeath

I cannot thank Kris enough for affording me the opportunity to work with her and for the kind words that she sent over. Testimonials like the one Kris has sent make all of my hard work worthwhile and help to remind me that the Orange County photography services I provide help people capture cherished memories and important events to print.

Orange County Photographer Shoots Santa Day In Rancho Santa Margarita

As an Orange County photographer who enjoys working with people immensely I often look for ways to give back to the community in which I serve. Very recently I had the pleasure and opportunity to work Santa Day at the South County Bank in Rancho Santa Margarita. The event was actually held last Saturday and I took photographs for $10 which presented each family with a full resolution picture of them and their children with Santa. These families also received the picture in digital format so that they can have it printed anywhere they like or even create Christmas cards. The event was extremely fun and as a result we will be planning a spring bunny day at the same bank for Easter once spring rolls around. That photo shoot will include real bunnies of all types and sizes so it's an event not to be missed.

I've included a photo of the entire staff that worked the event last Saturday as well some photos of kids with Santa!

Orange County Boudoir Photography

There are a number of reasons a woman might seek to have boudoir photography done though regardless of why she wants it done she will need an experienced Orange County photographer working with her if she's after high quality images. Boudoir photography has always been popular because women can have these pictures taken, pictures that are intimate and sensual, and they can be given as gifts or even serve as a reminder of a special time in their life.

Not all Orange County photographers offer boudoir photography nor are they adept enough to deliver fantastic images to their clients. For this reason alone it is important for women to seek out an Orange County photographer that has great experience in boudoir photography. Those with experience in this kind of photography will have the knowledge not only to deliver excellent photographs but photographs that can be much more than just imagery. When a woman finds an Orange County photographer that she's interested in she should be sure that the photographer does the following things.
  • Keep It Modest - An experienced Orange County photographer knows that when it comes to boudoir photography less is often more. Poses should be kept modest and the photographer should try his/her best to avoid poses with the woman sprawled out or with her legs open. When it comes to boudoir photography a head tilted or a shoulder backwards or forwards can create a very intimate look without having to be blatant. Experienced Orange County photographer will have one goal which is to create a creative portrait without becoming garish or crude.

  • Lighting - An Orange County photographer who's skilled in taking boudoir photographs will use only soft lighting for your photo shoot. Of course clear colors are always desirable but the lighting used should never create harsh shadows. The soft lighting will add a touch of intimacy to the photographs taken and soft boxes and diffusers should be something that the photographer you're interested in uses during your photo shoot.

  • Clothing - When it comes to boudoir photography the Orange County photographer you've decided to work with him must know that the more left up to the imagination the better. Human brains love puzzles and modest négligée's partially covered with robes can catch the attention of the mind much longer than blatant nudity will.

Orange County Family Photography In Time For The Holidays

I'm often inundated with all phone calls and e-mails during this time of year with questions from clients and prospective clients about family photographs and whether or not I can have them ready for them in time for the holidays. The truth is the sooner you book your session with an Orange County photographer like me the more likely it is that your holiday photographs will be ready in time. Even though families and individuals booking a session now have plenty of time to not only choose the date that they want to have their family photos taken by to have them ready to give a mail out as gifts for the holidays. Family photographs are popular not only for the holidays but with parents who want to create keepsakes of special moment in time where the entire family is together.
Family photographs are good for:
  • Christmas gifts
  • Family Christmas cards
  • Family keepsakes
  • Heirlooms to be passed down

Capturing Motion In Orange County Photography

An Orange County photographer will likely be asked to photograph many different things over the course of their career. Everything from family portraits to graduation pictures and even a new baby are all standard photographs for just about any photographer. While many Orange County photographers are adept at capturing still images only the most experienced are able to capture pictures that convey motion efficiently. Things like sports photographs and even wedding photographs often require an Orange County photographer to utilize skills that they don't use when taking still images for their clients.

Examples Of Motion Capture:
  • Sports photographs
  • Nature photographs
  • Scenic landscapes
  • Dancing photographs
  • Outdoor photographs
Orange County photographers can use two different techniques to capture motion. Freezing obvious motion and motion blur when applied properly can create beautiful and masterful photographs. Of course hiring the right Orange County photographer is the only way to ensure those techniques are applied properly and sometimes at all!

Recently the staff of Treasured Moments Photography attended a town hall meetings to see Meg Whitman speak on September 16th. Christie the owner started the company when she was 25 years old and they've been making military connectors ever since. “Meg is the real deal,” said Cristi Cristich, who is the CEO and founder of Cristek Interconnects, Inc. “(She) creates jobs and gets people back to work.” “I want to make California competitive again. We are not going to be out-competed by anyone,” Whitman said at one point during her speech.

The Orange County photographers had a great time listening to Meg about the plans she has. Of course during the event these Orange County photographers snapped several pictures of the event and of its speakers. The following images or from this event.

Orange County Photographers Shoot The DaVinci Robot

Recently Treasured Moments Photography and its staff of Orange County photographers was privileged enough to work with Sue Eiler, chief operations officer of Orange County Urology. Together with her project manager Scott Olsen of Medical Media Relations and Xlogic Design they put together a fantastic newsletter to send out to the medical community.

The Orange County photographers of Treasured Moments Photography were asked to photograph an amazing piece of surgical appointment called the DaVinci robot. Dr. Moses Kim met the Orange County photographers in one of the operating suites at Mission Hospital on a Saturday morning to do this. Dr. Kim gave the staff a surgical demonstration in which he controlled the robot, a robot which makes surgery for patients much less invasive. Additionally the robot cuts down on bleeding and incision sizes which makes for quicker recoveries.

The staff at Treasured Moments Photography found themselves both elated and impressed with the surgical equipment as well as Dr. Kim's demonstration. The staff of Treasured Moments Photography feels honored to have been invited to such a photo shoot and looks forward to hearing more of the DaVinci Robot in the months and years to come.

Preparing For A Wedding Shoot: Pre-visualization, Preparation, And Execution

There is a lot of consideration as well as preparation that goes into planning an Orange County wedding photography session. A professional photographer will not only have to spend considerable time interviewing the bride and groom to be but will need to spend an equal amount of time taking the information they received during that interview and using it to formulate a plan of action for the wedding day. The most skilled and efficient Orange County wedding photographers will spend the weeks and months prior to and event determining exactly whom to photograph, when to do it, and determine the best locations for shots.  They will then implement these plans which deal with both the planned and unplanned occurrences at a wedding.

The Best Orange County Wedding Photographers Will:
  • Use their intuition and imagination to help capture the unexpected and candid at a wedding.
  • Have several different plans in place for your wedding. This will ensure they miss nothing and are prepared for the unexpected.
  • Pre-visualize on the fly during a wedding enabling him/her to make adjustments quickly as needed. They will be thinking of where and how to take the next picture while in the process of taking one.
  • Take a less structured and more open approach to wedding photography by simply following guest, the wedding party, and family around during the event to capture moments not possible through conventional photography.
Regardless of what type of wedding photography you'd like to employ in your wedding you can be certain that any photographer that employs these styles and is thorough in the pre-visualizing of your event will produce only the highest quality wedding photographs, photographs that will be cherished for a lifetime. Should you have any questions about Orange County wedding photography or would like to book your wedding please contact Carol Bridges!

Tips For Taking Great Orange County Pregnancy Photographs

When it comes to Orange County pregnancy photography there a lot of do's and don'ts. Many people either want to oversimplify or overcomplicate the pregnancy photography process which generally yields pictures of a lower quality or pictures that focus on other things other than the mother to be. If you keep the following things in mind when you go for an Orange County pregnancy photography session, you'll find that the results produced phenomenal pictures.

Tips for Taking Great Orange County Pregnancy Photography Shots
  • Consider having pictures taken of you somewhere in the outdoors. There's something special that translates well into photographs about the beauty of a woman who is ready to bring new life into the world standing in the great outdoors. With the right backdrop like a sunset or sunrise you'll have pictures you be proud of for a lifetime.
  • Many pregnant women opt to have their Orange County pregnancy photographs taken in a professional studio. While a studio offers a number of advantages pregnant women should consider having photographs taken in their own home by a professional Orange County pregnancy photographer. People are most comfortable in their home and people who are comfortable make for some of the best pictures. Being in familiar surroundings as well as cherished ones will help you and your children look back on these photographs with many fond memories.
  • Keeping things simple is a good idea when it comes Orange County pregnancy photography. Regardless of where you shoot be it at a professional studio, home, outdoors, or even the local grocery store, you don't want to much going on in the backgrounds of images because the focus should remain on the miracle of a new life itself. Don't oversimplify but keep things simple enough to where there isn't a lot of set up or elaborate schemes.
  • Although many women opt to have Orange County pregnancy photographs taken by themselves they should seriously consider including the father of the child in these photographs. Including him in at least some of these not only adds something special to photograph for the child later but it showcases the tender relationship that exists between mother and father as well as the love between them that produced the child.
  • One other thing pregnant women should consider when they're preparing to have Orange County pregnancy photographs taken is to include not only the father of the child but siblings as well. This is a great way to showcase the type and the amount of love that this new baby will be making his/her way into after they are born.

Orange County Family Photography & Summer

Different times of the year make for different types of photographs and while some seasons make for better pictures than others there is no better season than summer for family photographs. Orange County family photographer Carol Bridges, in her many years of experience, has seen families select summer more than any other time of year to have things like family portraits done. This is because the weather is warm, kids are home from school and many parents choose to use vacation time during the summer season. Summer is also a popular time for Orange County family photography because it's long days not only give families and photographers more time but it also allows for outdoor photographs and some very beautiful backdrops. An Orange County family photographer like Carol bridges routinely travels to the location of her clients choice and photographs families at places like parks, beaches, yards, and just about any other location you can imagine.
